Course Description

This course aims to:
•Develop student’s understanding of the role in society as a financial language for a sole traders of service and retail concerns.
•Provide students with knowledge of the principles, processes and systems of Accounting.
•Enable students to apply financial knowledge and skills to practical situations.
This course introduces students to the subject of Accounting. It is an introductory course which concentrates on the business world and decision making. Students will become familiar with the language of business and will learn to report and analyse financial information. The course aims to develop communication, analytical and reasoning skills in students.
Course Standards
10ACC001Demonstrate an understanding of accounting concepts for small entities.
10ACC002Describe a method of processing financial information and analysing transactions for a small entity.
10ACC003 Analyse and Interpret the financial information of a small entity
10ACC004Make a financial decision for an individual or a group (AS90981)
10ACC005Prepare financial statements for sole proprietors
Students who successfully complete the course will have 3 credits towards their NCEA Level 1 Accounting.

Entry Recommended: Achieved a pass in Year 10 Mathematics and English
