L2MAC builds on the Algebra concepts covered in Year 11 and focuses on the techniques and applications of both Algebra and Calculus, Mathematical modelling, and the development of Mathematical reasoning.
A combination of internal and external Achievement Standards, topics focus on Algebra Concepts, Calculus, Trigonometry, Graphs and Systems of Equations.
Course Overview
Term 1
Algebra (external assessment) and Trigonometry (internal assessment)
Term 2
Graphs (internal assessment) and Systems of Equations (internal assessment)
Term 3
Calculus (external assessment) and Algebra Revision
Term 4
Revision for external exams
Recommended Prior Learning
A minimum of 15 credits in Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standards, including a Merit or Excellence in AS1.2(Algebra Concepts) and AS1.3(Tables, Equations and Graphs) is required.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
This academic course is predominantly algebra based but will also include calculus and graphs as well as some statistics and probability. This course is required to prepare students for the academic Mathematics with Calculus course at Level 3.
Pathway
Mathematics with Calculus is an Option subject at Level 2. If a student struggles with Mathematics in Level 1 especally in Algebra and Graphs, he is advised not to opt for a Level 2 Mathematics Calculus course.
