Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Knowles
Recommended Prior LearningOpen Entry, however, it is recommended that students who enter this course have sound number skills and a good understanding of Year 10 Algebra concepts.
Students who do not meet the requirements for this course may enter into the Level 1 Numeracy Course.
Level 1 Mathematics (L1MAT) is a course designed to give students a sound understanding of the numeracy skills required for the day-to-day problems encountered at home or in the workplace, while also preparing students for future Mathematics study.
A combination of both internal and external achievement standards; topics in this course focus on Number, Algebra, Trigonometry, Graphing and Statistical Investigations. Successful completion of this course will allow students to gain the 10 Numeracy credits required to pass NCEA Level 1.
For those students who wish to continue into Level 2 Mathematics with Calculus, it is highly recommended that they perform well in both of the Algebra based external Achievement Standards (1.2 and 1.3).
This course may be differentiated for students who find they struggle with the Algebra components of the course. This is arranged between the classroom teacher, student and parents / caregivers.
Term 1
Number (internal assessment), Trigonometry (internal assessment)
Term 2
Multivariate Data Investigation (internal assessment), Algebra (external assessment)
Term 3
Algebra continued, Tables, Equations and Graphs (external assessment)
Term 4
Exam Revision
Mathematics with Calculus Level 2, Mathematics with Statistics Level 2
Mathematics is not a compulsory subject at NCEA Level 2.
Refer to the course descriptions for Level 2 Calculus and Statistics to see recommended levels of understanding for these courses.
