Teacher in Charge: Mr P. Manu.
Recommended Prior LearningAchievement of: 22 Credits in Level 1 Art is recommended, however, course is open to those who are interested in the subject.

This course offers students the opportunity to specialise in either Painting or Printmaking, building on the foundational skills developed in Level 1 Visual Art. Students will work within their chosen discipline to explore visual ideas, develop technical skills, and produce a cohesive body of work that reflects both personal expression and professional artistic practices.
While prior completion of Level 1 Visual Art is strongly recommended, students who have not taken Art since junior school may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with approval from the Head of Visual Arts.
Course Structure:
Students will choose to specialise in either Painting or Printmaking
They will study a range of contemporary and historical artists relevant to their chosen discipline
Emphasis will be placed on the development of drawing, media handling, and the conceptual development of ideas
Students will explore real-world themes, developing visual responses that connect to current artistic practices and professional models
What Students Will Learn:
How to generate and refine ideas through drawing and media exploration
How to analyse and apply artist models to inform their own work
How to plan, develop, and produce a resolved series of artworks
How to critically reflect on their creative process
Assessment:
Standards are selected based on the student's area of specialisation:
Painting students will be assessed through Painting-based Visual Arts standards
Printmaking students will be assessed through Printmaking-based Visual Arts standards
Students wishing to take both Painting and Printmaking must seek approval from Mr. Manu, due to the workload and expectations of completing two separate portfolios.
This course prepares students for Level 3 Visual Art and supports pathways into fine arts, design, illustration, education, and other creative industries.
