Mathematics Level 1

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr K. Roberts

An academic course with emphasis on algebra. Also covering graphing, number, measurement, trigonometry, statistics and probability. This course is required for students who wish to advance to Level 2 and Level 3 Mathematics, and also for students to satisfy the requirements for Level 1 Numeracy.

This is a differentiated course designed to meet the learning needs of students.

Students who find algebra challenging will be designed a course based on internal achievement standards.

Students who wish to pursue Mathematics with Calculus will do all the achievement standards including the two external assessments.

Recommended Prior Learning

Open Entry, however, it is recommended that you would have achieved at least a Merit in the Year 10 Algebra Assessment (MCAT)
Students who do not meet the criteria for this Mathematics course, maybe placed in the Level 1 Mathematics Course with Internal Standards only, or the Level 1 Numeracy Course (Unit Standards only L1NUM)

Pathway

Mathematics with Calculus or Statistics are Option subjects at Level 2. If a student struggles with Mathematics in Level 1, he is advised not to opt for a Level 2 Mathematics course.
