Year 8 Options
Year 7s going into Year 8 in 2021
You will do your option selection once you return to school or you can complete it here.
In addition to the core classes of Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education, Year 8 students also have the following options.
- All students will do 4 OPTIONS (2 x 1st half year, 2 x 2nd half year)
- All students MUST do Digital Technology and/or Technology (you will need to select one first)
- All Students should do a Language (Either Japanese or Maori)
- Students in the Junior Band must do Music 1st half of the year.

Description of Year 8 options:
Technology: Students work with a range of hard materials to develop a CO2 drag racer and a pencil box/phone holder.
Digital Tech: Students learn the basics of designing digital outcomes and computer programming.
Te reo me Tikanga Māori: Māori language and customs, conversational Māori and learning about historical and contemporary culture (Karakia, Mihi, Pepeha, games (Ki-o-rahi), celebration’s (Matariki), Te wiki o te Reo Māori).
Enterprise Studies: skills for setting up businesses with a focus on legal structure/finance and profitability
Music: Theory/Listening, Composition, Playing Guitar/Ukulele
Japanese: Conversational Japanese/study of Japanese culture (Animation, Sports, Festivals etc.)
Art: Main focus is on sculpture studies: students plan/design/create sculptures of cars and animals
Note: Year 8 option selection is dependent on student choice numbers and our ability to staff the courses. Therefore, the availability of a student's option choice is subject to change and we recommend that everyone choose a back-up.
