Minimum entry into University requires:
- NCEA Level 3
- Three subjects - at Level 3 or above, made up of:14 credits each, in three approved subjects
- Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above made up of:5 credits in reading and5 credits in writing

Entry to the majority of courses at University is very competitive and requires students to accumulate as many credits at Level 3 as possible, particularly at merit and excellence levels (grade average is used for entry into many courses).
Students considering going to university, should check course entry requirements on university websites. All universities have qualified careers staff who are available to help any students in planning their degree programme.
